WSBE professors who may be helpful to contact:

Bill Hassey, Bruce Elmslie, Andrew Houtenville, Marc Herold (total commie bastard, he may provide good quotes), William Knowles, Aziz Saglam, Michael Swack.  This will generate quotes and a prospective from within WSBE.

From outside of WSBE: Try Mark Rubinstein for direction, he is the vice president for student and academic affairs.  He may be able to give you good information, and direct you to specific people who will be helpful.

Use Blackboard for the contact information for these people

Big Picture Assignment

Allie is looking to do a debate about WSBE for an article.  I want her to find out what people are thinking about the new business school in this economy.

Who cares about a name debate?  Why are we cutting jobs all over the place and building a new school?  Where did the matched money for the Peter Paul Challenge come from?  Who is paying for all of this?

But then again, could the new school benefit UNH at large in the recession?
Who will benefit?

More on who Allie can contact and what she should ask tomorrow

The Mistakes I Make

To my dismay, my professor has instructed me to admit publicly the mistakes I often make as an editor and what I need to improve on.  In truth, I will tell you that I need to become better acquainted with The AP Stylebook.

I often confuse "effect" and "affect" and have mistaken "weary" for "wary."   I even still trip over properly using street names.

What I have learned during my first week of thinking like an editor is that it is not appropriate to write "arrested for" and rather to say, "arrested in connection with..." or "arrested and charged with..."

I also learned that I shouldn't say, "I convinced him to," and instead to say, "I convinced him of."

There is no apostrophe in "1960's."  It's just "1960s."

"Further" is used for a sense of time, not distance.

It is correct to say "He looked toward the speaker," not "towards."

I'm getting more Stylebook savvy by the minute.

An Editor's Credo

Seak the truth and publish only that.  Compete with just yourself and strive to be better each day.  Intuitively, you always know the answer.  "I want for my dreams to be so high above this town, that when I reach for the stars I have to step down." - Jeannette Hopkins
